Music Program: (Music Performance Assessment:  MPA stands for Music Performance Assessment.  These are sanctioned outlets for quality feedback on a variety of musical formats.)  Each district of the Florida Vocal Association presents two MPA events per year:  Solo and Ensemble MPA and Choral MPA.  At Choral MPA, the choir performs 2-3 memorized pieces, for a panel of adjudicators.  After the performance the choir will sight-read a short selection of music for another judge.  Both the performance and sight-reading are rated on a scale of 1 to 5.  1 being the highest rating.  These ratings have an equivalent title:

1+ – Superior (with Distinction)  |   1 – Superior   |   2 – Excellent   |    3 – Good    |    4 – Fair    |    5 – Poor

The Blake School’s middle school students were awarded straight superiors.

The purpose of this adjudication is to assess student learning in the choral classroom.  Participation in MPA is required of all Blake School choral students.  The Blake School’s choruses have an outstanding record at MPAs and hope to continue the tradition of fine choral singing and sight-reading.

Academic Scholarships:  Two Eighth grade graduates were awarded academic scholarships at area private schools.  The remaining graduates gained entrance into the high schools of their choice:  St. Thomas; Archbishop McCarthy; West Minster Academy; and IB (International Baccalaureate) Program as well as the Cambridge Program.  The Blake School is very proud of their academic achievements and are looking forward to their future success.

Field Trips:  The Middle School students gained extensive knowledge on their field trip to Marine Lab in Key Largo, while having a great time!
