Center for Modern Media

The Databazaar Center for Modern Media at The Blake School is the centerpiece of the school’s hybrid learning environment where traditional education and modern technology converge to give Blake students a competitive edge. Built and maintained as a gift from the Databazaar group of companies, the media center, the interactive school website, and the wired classrooms together provide for a unique technology-driven curriculum rarely found in a K-8 school.

Along with delivering the TechnoKids curriculum, the media center offers students and faculty a variety of state-of-the-art digital resources, including video, music, photography, graphic design and Web design capabilities, which they can integrate into educational projects and curriculum.

The mission of the Media Center is :

To integrate the knowledge of technology to the existing curriculum at all levels.
To empower students with essential technology skills to enter the digital world.

Computer Curriculum

The children at The Blake School will be introduced to the various concepts of computing through the TechnoKids curriculum which has been given the highest rating for its content, presentation and instructional approach by the Florida Department of Education.
TechnoKids is a project based curriculum to integrate technology skills into K – 12 curriculum. Each category includes theme based projects using Microsoft Office and Adobe applications to reinforce concepts taught in the classrooms. The curriculum also meets the National Education Technology Standards for students

Typical Technology skills

Creating a multi-page website that communicates information effectively.
Organize, calculate and graph data using advanced spreadsheet skills.
Capture and edit video footage to produce a commercial.
Create a digital story using advanced animation
Build a database using tables, forms, queries and reports.

Web Protection Service
The Media Center is protected by the K9 Web Protection Service, a content filtering solution providing a family safe internet environment.

Future collaborations

The Knight Center for International Media (University of Miami – School of Communication) will help integrate program in the realm of multimedia visual journalism and global communications.
